The Role

Reporting to the Business Director, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for maintaining all aspects of accounts payable and receivable functions for our multiple business entities. With strong analytical skills and attention to detail, the position will process invoices and receivables while working collaboratively with the business units to ensure adherence to our internal financial procedures. 

Expectations for the Role 

Accurate and timely processing of accounts payable transactions including:

  • receiving and verifying vendor invoices or expense claims, receiving appropriate approvals, coding and entering data into accounting software 
  • Issuing Associate payroll calculations
  • Coordinating with external auditors
  • Managing weekly cheque run for mailing
  • Generating cash flow reports & monitoring
  • Month-end reporting
  • Assisting with budgets
  • Manages and responds to vendor inquiries 
  • Completion of bank, credit and other account reconciliations
  • Responsible for financial record-keeping, including the processing of payables, receivables and recording of general journal entries
  • Ongoing maintenance of accounting documents and related files
  • Prepares statistical, financial and other accounting reports
  • Other related accounting duties, as assigned 

Required Education:

  • Diploma or degree in Finance, Accounting, Bookkeeping or related education is an asset .

Required Experience, Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a similar capacity 
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and basic accounting skills 
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Experience with accounting system software QBO
  • Detail oriented and excellent analytical skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects within critical timelines
  • Ability to make sound, independent judgements within scope of authority 
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and offer solutions
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced work environment 
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating a friendly and courteous attitude towards colleagues

Carpenter Job Responsibilities:

  • Installs foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as: wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials.
  • Fits and installs window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim using a carpenter’s level, plumb bob, and laser levels.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levels.
  • Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
  • Shapes or cuts materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
  • Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  • Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools.
  • Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools.
  • Inspects ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.
  • Moves necessary materials around the job site as assigned.
  • Cleans up worksite debris.

Monday – Friday 8-4:30PM

Carpenter Qualifications / Skills:

  • Capable of receiving and following instructions and communicating with co-workers
  • Able to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
  • Attentive to detail and always alert to ensure safety

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • High school diploma is an asset
  • 4 years of experience in commercial or residential carpentry
  • Ability to comprehend schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans and other specifications
  • Strong working knowledge of job site safety as well as ability to complete a company specific safety orientation

Construction Manager Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees construction sites, general contractors, and workers to ensure a high level of quality and safety.
  • Creates and reviews Requests for Information and Requests for Proposal and Change Orders.
  • Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals and procedures.
  • Ensures that the project is constructed and documented in accordance with the contract documents and good engineering practices.
  • Provides technical support to Project Managers.
  • Develops and maintains project cost/change controls, and project budget and accounting records.
  • Performs change order estimating and assists the Project Manager in change order negotiations.
  • Coordinates and monitors schedule updates, invoices, and submittals.
  • Assists in managing and reviewing the progress of contractors’ construction schedules.
  • Reviews weekly and monthly reports on the status and progress of the contracts, including project costs and potential changes.
  • Reports the status of projects to business and market leaders.
  • Attend client program meetings as needed.

Construction Manager Qualifications / Skills:

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or other related discipline required but not necessary.
  • 5+ years of project experience working in the construction industry required
  • EIT certification preferred
  • Experience with large manufacturing facilities construction sites preferred
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite of tools, exposure to schedule software, preferably Primavera (P6) preferred

Construction Site Safety Officer

The Role

The Site Safety Officer will be responsible for assisting the Site Superintendent with accurate compliance to OH&S legislation and providing support in promoting a culture of safety on WM work sites. You will also be responsible for assisting the Site Superintendent with compliance to the corporate ‘Occupational Health and Safety Program’.

Duties include:

  • Support and promote WM Occupational Health & Safety Program, COR Program
  • Assist site operations with compliance to current Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and WM safety rules
  • Liaise with Site Superintendents on a regular basis relating to health and safety-related matters
  • Educate and guide Site Superintendents on safety best practices, OHS legislation and site-specific safety related matters/requirements
  • Train, Coach and guide site superintendents, employees and sub-contractors to ensure unsafe conditions/acts are corrected and safe work practices are followed
  • Assist Site Superintendents with the completion of all required paperwork in a timely fashion
  • Maintain subcontractor and MSDS documentation
  • Be up to date on all activities at site operations; provide a positive safety role model and support
  • Maintain safety standards with minimal interruption to site operations
  • Facilitate and participate in site inspections and implement corrective action as required
  • Ensure all safe work procedures are available for workers to review
  • Conduct follow-up with injured workers as necessary – including up to date documentation, action items and return to work programs
  • Assist with other duties as assigned upon completion of required site safety duties
  • Maintain up to date and accurate documentation and records for all injuries/illnesses in the First Aid Record Book
  • Maintain up to date documentation for site safety records on the site (investigations, near misses, incidents)
  • Forward all paperwork relating to safety infractions, incident/investigation reports, site JOSH minutes, WorkSafe Inspection Reports to the Project Manager and the OHS Manager in a timely manner

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial construction/site safety (on-site safety support)
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 2 (OFA 2)
  • Solid knowledge of construction processes and site safety
  • The ability to handle high-pressure situations in a professional manner; take an educational approach to provide safety support to Site Superintendent and site workers
  • Valid BC Driver’s License (Note position requires travel to various WM site operations)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation
  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO)certification is preferred
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Proven ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated aptitude for report and documentation writing with a focus on providing clarity and accuracy
  • Excellent written and oral/interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
